How to Build Your Voice and Visibility on LinkedIn — a deep dive into the art of showing up online with confidence, purpose, and authenticity.

From Profile to Presence
Many of us spend time perfecting our profiles but hesitate when it comes to posting. We scroll, we read, we like — but we rarely speak.
This session was about changing that mindset.
We explored the idea that LinkedIn is not just a digital CV — it’s a space for professional storytelling and connection. The algorithm rewards engagement, not silence. Every thoughtful comment, repost, or small reflection moves you through what we called the LinkedIn Engagement Funnel:
Be Seen → Be Recognised → Be Connected → Be Approached.
The more you interact, the more visible you become — not just to recruiters, but to your future collaborators, mentors, and community.
Inspiration from Hiuman Wong
What could be more motivating for a jobseeker than hearing from someone who was headhunted five times — simply because of her posts on LinkedIn?
Our guest speaker Hiuman Wong, Sales Manager at Checkout.com, shared her story of turning consistent, authentic posting into real career opportunities.
She reminded us that visibility doesn’t mean self-promotion — it means connection. Her approach focuses on three things:
Talk about your work naturally. Share what you learn, not just what you’ve done.
Post with purpose. Each post should tell a small story or reflect a real insight.
Engage meaningfully. Respond to others, show curiosity, and build trust.
As Hiuman said,
“Don’t wait for opportunities — start conversations that lead to them.”
Understanding Your Audience
Another key theme of the session was knowing who you’re talking to.
LinkedIn isn’t for “everyone” — your posts should speak to the people who can support your next step: employers, recruiters, peers, and mentors.
We talked about tone — how British professional culture values clarity, positivity, and humility — and why authenticity always makes a stronger impression than formality.
Good communication begins with empathy.
Before you post, ask yourself:
“Who do I want to reach?” and “What message do I want them to take away?”
From Lurker to Contributor
Not sure what to post? Start small.
Here’s a simple structure we practised:
Share a story or moment from your learning or work life.
Add one short reflection: what you learned or found interesting.
End with a question to invite discussion.
Even a short post like that can spark connection and help you find your professional voice.
Final Thought
LinkedIn is about showing up as yourself, consistently. It’s where professionalism meets personality — and where visibility turns into opportunity.
Every comment, post, or message is a step forward in your LinkedIn funnel — from awareness to trust to collaboration.
So don’t just scroll — speak, share, and connect.
Because the real power of LinkedIn lies not in algorithms, but in authentic human stories.
