THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE OLD PHARMACY :
Refugees from our network are being paid to undertake the design and building work in the new space.
All the work in the Maker Space was undertaken by Sanctuary Seekers, with a right to work in the UK
Facework's Maker Space
Once an old pharmacy, now a creative community hub in the heart of New Cross.
We’re here to help people make, learn, and connect — from arts and crafts
to bold ideas that strengthen our community.
Our mission is to revive the high street and build community ties through creativity and collaboration.
Whether you’ve lived here for years or just arrived, you’re welcome to join in.
We provide the space — you bring the ideas.

Facework’s Maker Space Model
In 2025, Facework is launching a new approach — shifting the focus from job searching to job making.
Facework’s Maker Space is an innovative community project empowering refugees and local residents to connect, create, and build skills on their path to employment.
At Maker Space, we believe that making together — whether crafting, designing, or launching new ideas — strengthens confidence, community, and well-being.
This pilot programme helps newcomers to Lewisham — the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary — gain agency, self-employment skills, and a sense of belonging through creativity and collaboration.
See the full proposal for details about the pilot programme.
